That's what I thought! I personally do not take chances on high dollar parts but can understand the reasons for understating the value of packages entering the UK.

Recently sent some parts to Britain. I purchased insurance for those parts at what I thought the value was for the sake if they were to get mashed up or gone missing. Part of buying insurance is the need for a stated value and that's where the receiving end gets shafted by duties

It's a game of chance I personally will not take. Not everyone packages items like they'd like them to be received.

Yep, and some deliveries dont get pulled up on the duty, its the luck of the draw. I've just had an email from a customer from over the w/end - he'd bought some v expensive HRE wheels from us, we'd got them shipped directly from our US HQ just over a week ago(aheamm, valued slightly lower that what they're worth) but he didnt have to pay a thing to the courier.

Needless to say, he's well happy!

This is only applicable on the shipping cost and what the goods are "valued" at on the ticket tho, if its £3500.00 worth of parts and they're "valued" at say $500.00 (approx £315.00) you'll only have to pay the 15% VAT on that £315.00 amount (plus a few other minor customs fee and an £8.00 handling charge). BUT, if the parts get damaged in transit, they'll only be insured up to the value of £315.00. The chances are if this will not happen tho if they are wrapped and boxed securely.

Do make it clear to the supplier (034 in this case) what you would like the goods "valued" at though, trust me, suppliers in the US are used to doing this..

You may even be lucky and they'll just get delivered without having to pay a penny.
This is a good idea, of course i don't condone swindling money from our government
The only worrying thing is if it's a tolal loss, ie missing in the post. The chances of the parts i'll be ordering being damaged by the courier will be unlikely, the only thing i could see being damaged if not packed properly is the HG, but the valued price would cover that.

Never had to pay import duty on anything ive had shipped overseas to a work address, its worth a shot.

Good point, not realy possible for me as i don't work out of my works address and don't really know that many folk in there that i could ask. Saying that could see one of my mates. Plus it would be easyer for me not having to wait in the house for it to be delivered.

    Good idea cheers
