Back to lap times, i bet the dialynx sport quattro or keith edwards sport quattro would would absolutely destroy any car around there.
Whilst I love most of the cars listed in the 'I bet this would beat the lap record' section of this thread, I think you are missing the point of Top Gear. Apart from the humour and silliness, the motoring part ONLY focuses on current production models.
I have a vague recolection that they did allow a twin engined TT on the track once, but only because it was so radical and was supposed to be a record holder of some sort.
Remember, for every fourrings fan, there are 27 Ford owning Barry boys and 47 Ricer owning Chavs who spend all their dole on Nitrous that would likely trounce not only the lap record, but any Audi as well....sad but true I suspect.
My father was really surprised that there was not a seriously huge explosion. Why dont they use tyres from an aircraft... those rims looked like a pair of 15"s running some Kwikfit budget tyres....
But you know there is the race around their track and currently the record is something below 1m20s and I allways hope that they sometime will put tuned cars on the track (in the hand of Stig to give equal testing). Will the time be beaten? They have shown us tuned cars before...
Imagine Doug's car or the Dahlback Golf, or the KRB quattro, or Steve Scott's Fiesta, or Reyland Escort, or the Norris Evo, or some high powered RS200. Boy would I like to see that! Imagine Clarkson opening with this word: "Here is a new episode of Stig in our ridicolus fast tuners contest, will he beat the 1m20s?".
Oh yeah and then there is the matter of Group B quattro that was beaten by the Evo FQ400 (low 1m23s) that has to be settled so bring back the honour!
