Selling my B2 80 Sport on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...ht_1610wt_1138
This car has often been touted (in road tests of the time) as “the thinking man’s Golf GTI”.
I bought this car in June 2010 from a chap who has owned it since 1986, and he bought it off his father in law who had it from new.
I have used it for approximately 10,000 miles, but have now bought a 1993 Audi 80 TDI avant for commuting. Over the winter I fitted steel wheels and winter tyres, and it was truly unstoppable in the snow, even down to -10C. Better than a quattro in the snow with summer tyres (winter wheels are NOT for sale with it).
I am only selling it because I have 5 other Audis registered in my name, and want to get it down to just 2 in total.
I also have a B2 80 CL, another 80 Sport shell, a 100 quattro avant (also on ebay) and a 100 auto avant. I am quite an enthusiast, but having 4 kids and a full time job means it is time to thin down the fleet, as I won’t get a chance to do anything else with this.
My plans initially involved fitting a 2.0 16 valve (6A I think) engine from a later Audi 80, which should make it really fly.
The 80 Sport regularly returns 37mpg (super unleaded - as it makes it go a bit better!).
The car weighs in the region of 980kg, and has 112bhp, so is quite nippy and is very capable of keeping up with modern traffic.
I even used it for a work trip from Wiltshire to the Lake District, a round trip of 550 miles without missing a beat.
In my ownership I have replaced the following:
New radiator;
Anti Roll Bar bushes;
Front top mounts;
Fuel pump (I went for the high quality Pierburg one, not a cheap one);
Fitted 6x9 Pioneer speakers in a custom made “stealth shelf”, and replaced the front speakers with 4” Alpine items. The wiring is there for a subwoofer and amp in the boot, but this is not included in the sale.
Replaced fuel filter and replaced rusty fuel lines;
Fitted induction kit (basically a foam panel filter - sounds awesome!)
Changed oil and filter.
Changed rocker cover gasket.
Had the exhaust welded and replaced the rubbers.
Replaced rear light sealant to fix leak into boot.
I am not a “boy racer” (I’m 36), I commute 60 miles a day and take it easy to save money on fuel. The owner before me is in his 50s.
Bad points:
Dent below right rear light
Front bumper is pushed in slightly, although it didn’t damage the number plate - which is still original.
3 small chips on windscreen (passed the MoT with these).
Rusty rear arches (standard on these!)
Small hole in A pillar
scabby patches on doors.
Good points:
3 “mature” owners from new
Good history file.
“nippy” and economical.
No sunroof (the drain holes block and cause rust).
Tyres are Hankook K406 on the front, one with approx 2mm tread, the other approx 4mm tread. The rears are a Dunlop Sport 2000 with approx 2mm tread and a Dunlop Sport with approx 4mm tread.
To summarise, this is a good solid car (with the usual nicks and scratches of being 26 years old), still has a decent turn of speed (0-60 is approx 9 seconds in these), which would make a good base for either a track day car (lots of engine options), a rat look car (dropped 60mm on a set of steel wheels and matt back the rusty arches), or just drive it as it is, and sell it on.
MoT is mid June, and tax is end of June.
