Not new and hardly the most technical subject around, but the most satisfying fix I have done for ages...no rattles or squeaks AT LAST !
See most of this old thread, in particular #26 ...together with the the blob of grease forced into the lock as others mention...its a miracle cure ....having said that I almost miss the squeak now.......
