Good to have you here again mate, we ve missed your explanationsI think the only reason why anyone should think of a wider cambelt (therefore wider camgear, crankshaft gear and waterpump gear) is beacuse of sensibly higher loads over the valve tranny, which, as far as I can think of, is only due to higher then stock rpms and higher camshaft lifts. This will give two effects:
1) For higher revs you need stiffer springs (anyway with a higher elastic constant "K")which in turn gives higher loads.
2) The overall loads and drag absorbtions increase with the square of speed.
The two combined factors, depending of course on how much the increase in lift and rpm, can cause quite a significant load increase.
I don't think this should be an issue for not racing engines. I mean the 600++ hp monsters running 8500 rpms and mega lift camshafts (the latter only good when you want to squeeze out of the engine the very last few Hp at the higher rpms).

Unless you widen the water pump pulley it is a waste of money having the wider version, you are stuck with a 19mm width belt because of the water pump.
Without letting the cat out of the bag there is work afoot to produce a wider pulley for the water pump that will allow the use of a 25mm belt (the cam pulley, idler roller and crank pulley are already available at this width) but I haven't said anything

Can anybody confirm the 31mm fits the standard cambelt cover correctly?Leave a comment:
