3B Aircon System

I've just removed a heater unit and tbh they are not too bad if you know where all the bolts etc are, it was a bit of trial and guesswork (no errors allowed as the heatermatrix is spoken for) and it was out, documented it in the other thread I did, glad to see you got your car a bit lighter tho. -
In my case I found that the firewall was already "scored" in the right place and one hit from the inside with a cold chisel where the aircon pipes go through left a nice oval hole in the right place.Mounted automatic aircon to my previous coupe. ......... and you have to make a big hole in a firewall if there was no AC original.

Would have liked too get a few more pictures but i just wanted to get this done.
Thier are four 10mm nuts holding the heater box in :
Two on the bulkhead, where the two black sealing washers are:

And another two where the air feed for the fan is, underneath this run off shroud

Could'nt be bothered to take it back off after i had fitted back correctly to stop any water run off from the windscreen pooling in the footwell
Hole in the bulkhead where the air con pipes come through:
Pipe running from Condensor to pump:

Pipe running from bukhead to pump:

Really easy to get too when you take the wing off
Everything else is pretty self explanitory.
After weighing all the parts of the air con system it all came in at 18.1kg, not including the air con matrix in the heater box, the pump alone weighed in at 10.7kg
condensor was 5kg and the lines brackets and bolts came in at 2.4kg.
I have a spare ABY radiator fan and thought i would weigh it, 4.8kg

The KL15, ligting, diagnose and couple more is conected in the midle of a main loom. But anyway you can steal a signal here an there.Leave a comment:

I found that quite easy to get at.
Good man.
Have you found an alternative place for the battery? I haven't quite decided yet, other than NOT under the bonnet.

could you fit the digital climate control to a RHD, non air-con car i wonder? :mischeif:Leave a comment:

I'm pretty sure there is a separate sub-loom for the aircon that is optional fitment. I'll have to check up on that with zee good books !

I will document it fully dont worry
The worst part of the job was getting to the lower 10mm nut by the heater matrix inside the engine bay
engine loom and brake pipes surround it and its a ****** to get too.
Their is 2 multiplugs on the aircon electrics which connect into a loom going to the fuse board, does anyone know whether all s2's have the provision for air con to be fitted or will i have too take out the wires all the way back to the fuse box ?
Oh, i hacked out the battery tray also

Jon - any photos and description of how you done this along the way would be mighty to record for posterity. I'm surprised its possible without major hassle. Well done for not shying away from it !

I have just removed the condensor, fan housing, and loom assembly and must say it was not as bad as i thought it would be, the rest should be out by sunday so will post some pics up of the progress.
I agree with lini now after tackling half the job, looks like access to the pipework isnt to bad after you take the engine loom out of the way

Mounted automatic aircon to my previous coupe. It vas V6 and it is defenetly not an engine out job. The only problem can bee fitting the hoses. Ewerything else is just a bolton job. The anoying job is the electrics and you have to make a big hole in a firewall if there was no AC original.
