The ideal finish is a sort of satin finish, but inlet and exhaust ports need slightly different finishes.
    Inlet

    Exhaust

combustion chambers are another thing altogether: eg......

You want to put the near-mirror finish on the combustion chamber walls for two reasons: 1) As a deterrent to carbon build-up; and 2) to eliminate any sharp edges that can cause pre-ignition. The first thing to do is clean up the stems of your junk valves (Cross Buff or one of the surface conditioning discs will work well) then install the valves into the chamber you will be working on. They will protect those all-important valve seats as you polish the surrounding chamber surfaces.

The whole thing that was being said about this engine was that he was going on about this all singing all dancing head that hadn't been touched!!!!!

Interesting pics - I've been wondering how much material to remove in round the valve guides... I had assumed the metal in the port area close to the guides helps remove heat. I haven't removed the guides yet and started into that area so thats got me wondering - is that pic from a 20V turbo head or some non-turbo 16V Golf application ?

There's no way that engine will pump out 900 bhp. Maybe 700 bhp on a nice cold day

I wonder what planet this guy lives on, and as Paul rightly points out, those exhaust ports are not a pretty sight

Also, it makes me laugh when people put comments in adverts such as "brand new RS2 rod bearings". Well the rod bearings for an RS2 are no different to the rod bearings fitted to many Audi 80/100/200/A3/A4/A6/TT models, they are just standard bearings at the end of the day
