I've got to say Dave, it's a car with a lot of potential.

She drives really nicely. Going back to her home to North Wales in the next week or so.

    Thanks.

Well she passed with a clean bill of health.
Co2 was 0.19 so cats are working nicely.

Just caught up on this project thread. Fantastic work Dave and thank you for sharing. It's so helpful to newbies like me. Gives me some confidence and inspires me to 'have a go'. Just need a new house with a proper garage and yard space for a few cars... and some more tools... and some money... etc.!

Good luck with the MOT today

I the rear wiper on my Avant to sort out, though I have a spare and think the original one may well respond to a good clean to unblock the washer jet...

It does seem like everything on the back of that car is exceptionally rusty, the screw's holding on the interior trim for example as well as that connector don't even see water as a rule unless the boot it left open in the rain. I think it must have been used close to the sea as we've already said.

    Good luck with the MOT!

The rear wiper is dead. A quick check on 7zap confirmed that the S2 Avant uses the same motor. As it happens, I have a spare (as you do). However, the blade was seized on the shaft. Lots of soaking with wd40 and gently tapping with a soft mallet and it came off.

Getting the internal tailgate trim off was a challenge. These little screws were rusted out. I had to drill the heads off.

The Haynes manual isn't very clear about removing the liners. They don't tell you about the two hidden screws behind these flaps. Thanks to Quattro World for that.

    Motors side by side.

Only the mount on the S2 is different.

While I was in there I discovered this terminal all rusted away.

I had a spare that worked. I had to swap out the plug as that was rusted out as well.

A little tessa tape after this pic and we are good.

The water jet nozzle was broken on the S2 wiper. I had to drill it out. It's only plastic.

The one from the S6 motor was good.
Now we have a working wiper.

There is quite a bit of rust inside the tailgate around the number plate light openings. This will need to be addressed as some point soon.

Just had my first John. Very impressive.

So, I needed to spin her around the block quickly before the mot to check the brakes and things. There are usually some teething issues on a first drive and you don't want to be trying to sort these as you sit outside the mot garage.
The car drove nicely, pulls like a train and boosts properly. However, the exhaust was contacting the body under acceleration and the wiper on the drivers side wasn't clearing the screen at all.

This is where the exhaust is contacting.

A quick tweak didn't fully sort it. I then noticed something. I had used the hanger from the S2 cats as they were in better condition. They looked the same. On closer examination, they are different. The S6 hanger slants forward.

I swapped them over and now we look good. Hopefully that will have fixed the problem.
Onto the wiper. The spring on the arm was good and it wasn't seized. However, the arm itself was bent. I tried to bend it back but this didn't work. I happened to have a few spare (as you do) and one from an S2 Avant fitted perfectly.

Just got to check all the lights now before tomorrow as the bulb out warning came on whilst driving.

She was all dusty after her weeks in the garage so I gave her a good scrub.

No need to take pics mate, I trust your judgment Rob, thanks again for your input, has saved me £150 odd quid.

Those Cat's have also been a God send to Dave, they finish off all his hard work underneath that now lovely car just nicely, again I'm super impressed at his attention to detail.

He's turned that URS6 from a potentially being a rot box into a beautiful example that will now last a great many years, the owner is a very lucky chap.

Hope you find your own example soon Dave.
