  • RS2 America

First of all I would like to thank the S2forum and all the people who contribute to it daily for helping. Having been a semi-lurker here for several years now and I would like to formally introduce myself and my project. Hello! I live in the southeast US in the state of Georgia. Anton it's too bad there is a whole country between us! I sure would love to compare notes. I'm sure most will call me crazy for doing this, but it won't be the first time. 8 years ago I was the first guy in the US to convert a urS4 to a euro-spec urS6 complete with new wings, hood, bumpers, headlights, tailights, etc. I've helped around 20 people since aquire the euro bumpers to do the same. see here

OK, I've been amassing parts for this project for the last 5 years. I've done this a little backward I guess having most of the parts before I could get the chassis shipped, which I've owned for 4 years already.

Because the object of this is to build a factory correct RS2 in the US I decided I would call it RS2 America. I got my idea from the Porsche RS America.

People in the US only have two choices, coupe or saloon/limo/sedan, if they wish to build a S2/RS2 spec car. The B4 avant was never offered here unfortunately and that is what makes this project so special.......I'm starting with a '95 6-speed avant chassis as the basis. The chassis will be painted soon. I've chosen RS blue as it was the color of the Frankfurt show car and I already have the complete blue/black Recaro interior to match. I must say the DJ Roy's orange almost made me change my mind., which looks great by the way! After the car gets new paint I can finally start the build process. For now she's been relegated to a temporary suspension complete with 15 inch wheels from a 90q until after the new paint.

Here are the parts I'm starting with:
    RS2 engine
    RS2 downpipe
    RS2 6-speed w/correct mounts and linkage/shifter
    RS2 aluminum gearbox spacer
    RS2 front axles
    RS2 flywheel
RS2 Black leather/Blue Alcantara front and rear seats
    RS2 door cards black/blue
    RS2 black door pulls
    carbon fiber door trim (original)
RS2 airbag with carbon fiber trim
OEM RS2 front bumper complete with fog lights and repeaters (new)
    OEM RS2 rear bumper (used)
    OEM RS2 lower door trim
    OEM RS2 grill
    OEM RS2 mirrors
    OEM tailights w/red hatch handle
    OEM avant hatch spoiler
    RS2 front brakes 322mm (new)
RS2 rear brakes (calipers, rotors, etc)
RS2 suspension (struts, hubs, control arms)
    RS2 anti-sway bars
    RS2 X-member
RS2 spec brake proportioning valve with ABS pump
RS2 airbox with appropriate ducting from headlamp
    RS2 hydraulic res
    RS2 A/C compressor
    RS2 engine wiring harness
RS2 front wiring harness for lighting, horns, etc.
RS2 rear hatch harness complete with broken wires at flap hinge area
    RS2 battery wiring harness
RS2 rocker panel trim (I don't know what English fellows call it )
    RS2 sun visors w/make-up mirrors
    RS2 grip handles (above doors)
    Cup wheels
    RS2 radiator w/500w fan and A/C condensor
    new OEM bonnet (hood)
    new OEM wings (fenders)
    RS2 belly pan/tray

I've also bought new wheel bearings, steering rods, ball joints, drop links, upper strut mounts so I won't need to worry about them for a long time.

Here some pictures of what I've been up to.

What, no pictures of you sitting in the shell before we shipped it? We're just lucky that I didn't slam that old 90 into it when the steering wheel popped off while I was joy-riding it. New Bonnet, wings, and hatch look good!

Tom: You never said what the choices were. The only ones that I know of are converting a CQ to S2 with RS2 upgrades OR stealing one of the few (three? four?) RS2s that have somehow grey-marketed themselves into the US.

Being in Canada, as long as we have the 15 year importation rule, I am going to be looking for a March, 1994 build date car in early 2009 for importation into Canada.

Presumbably by that time, you will have your RS2 America on the road.

Best of luck with the project.

No I didn't. This is the S2 forum and I figured everyone knew already.

I edited my post in order to keep peace in North America.

                            cleaning up for paint

More pictures from earlier.I've been slowly degreasing, scrubbing, cleaning. It is paying off. A steam washer is on the way soon to remove road grim from the wheel arches.

She had gotten dirty in Germany while waiting to hitch a container ride to the US.

                            DSC02195.jpg

With a little soap, water, and elbow grease.....

                            DSC02203.jpg

....I was rewarded with a clean engine bay. I removed all the clips and brackets too. Much better, huh?
