Cut out the boot catch area to allow fitment of an Aerocatch.

And test fitted aerocatch on spare bootlid (going GRP bootlid).

Well ermmm not updated this for a while so heres the catchup (sorry for the mountain of photos!!!). Also the initial link is now dead, so i'll edit it to my website and the gallery with all the photos on (slightly easier to see the progress on there).

    Engine mount plate fully cut

Started making the triangulation for the bracket

and prepped the chassis leg for the mounting tabs.

    Finished the triangulation on N/S

    O/S mount plate.

Got Bambridge to machine up some delrin bush inserts for the mounts (I designed them for easy replacement).

    Cheers everyone!
Baz - using 016 gearbox which is manually locking centre diff. I'll just have the lockring in on position constantly. Your part of the inspiration for this build baz! Except I haven't bothered with the AWD.

James - thanks mate, need to have something to try keep up with you in 2011!!!!

Are you welding the torsen solid? or using a diffrent gearbox.

Good work BTW you cant beat the sound of the good old 5 pot, especially in a golf.

Simply the bay isnt long enough for it all... Yes AWD would be nice and Grant Parkers 750bhp AWD mk1 golf with S2 engine etc is a weapon. But I have a URQuattro which satisfys my needs for traction, so this is the silly bin i suppose.....

    Small upate as well...

Went christmas shopping but got distracted by the local metal firm (tathams steel) so popped in to see what offcuts they were binning... Bingo!
Blagged a load of small tubing and some plate for the engine mounts and rear diff mounting. Emptied my wallet of £16 but well worth it, in fact i'm thinking bout going back to buy up the rest of the tubing as its ideal for tubular wishbone frames. Anyway I made up two circular plates for the front strut brace (no holesaws here so made then by hand which took far too long <_< )for the mounting sections. Then I made up the N/S engine mount, will do the tubular arms once i get engine back into the bay and aligned again at correct height. Started on O/S which is just flat plate but it was freezing so came in to warm up.

    Engine mount

Hoping to have both mounts fully made up before new year but looking more than likely it'll be start of jan. Also need to get strut towers finished before feb as well!

    Anyway Merry Christmas everyone!

Jeffer - wont be quattro sadly... Too much work needed to front end which will take it away from being a mk1 golf...

Was thinking of keeping it looking like a normal mk1 golf gti racer but I may need more traction with wider wheels. Stuck between slightly extended arches and Grp H arches..

RS obviously is motorsport abbreviation in german, the R on the end just stands for Racing.... I wanted to name it something different to a GTi etc. It has little bearing on the car itself

Jamo - I hope for snow next christmas if its done for then!

RWD I5 Golf MK1, too say it will be a bit of a animal is an understatement!

It's going to be wide arch I think Puglife is in two minds about how wide arch!

started a topic VW Mk1 golf RSR

    VW Mk1 golf RSR

Not going to add all the images so far as i have over 300 in total since buying the car but its been a 3year project so far which has changed direction end of last year (had been planned out long before that).

I'll keep updating this little cheap side site i've got, its not much but hopefully is enough to display what i'm doing. Will add photos and updates on this thread too. Possibility it may be done this time next year but we'll have to see how it all pans out.
