Some progress has been made today, been sorting through parts that I have and spent another ~£150 with the stealer.
Progress today:- block has been cleaned down with marine clean and painted with heat resistant enamel so I can start to fit some of the ancillaries back onto the block.
- Bores have been honed
- Sorted through parts
- Cleaned down parts in engine bay ready for primer where it needs it in engine bay
- Reassemmbled PAS pump after exchange
Jobs for tomorrow are to paint a few more brackets and the oil cooler duct.
Fit as much back to the block as I can at this stage and start to refit exhaust manifold back onto the head.Greg

Some more progress todayn exhaust manifold has been refitted to the head and got a few ancillaries back on the engine block.
Been cleaning up lots of brackets and painting them and cleaned up the faces ready for new gaskets and rebuilt the oil pump.
Should be able to pick up the crank towards the end of the week and need to get some more time off work to do a bit more then.Greg

Bit of update on progress. Been split between fixing the golf due to incomptence of main dealer on recall and doing the S2.
Got the oil breather system cleaned out while ive been waiting for parts and reassembled parts of breather system.
Fitted the AAN throttle body and bolted back up and dropped the pistons into the block.
Thrust washers and new wiring loom for golf injectors/glowplugs just arrived so goto get that done before I can continue with bottom end. On the golf the dealer left a rubber mouting for the engine cover in the engine and damaged the loom replacing the injectors which has caused fault on the glowplugs which they said they could fix for £269......Needless to say I am taking this up with them to get sorted without me having to fork out to fix their problems.Greg

Just getting to stage of tightening the ARP rod bolts. What is the procedure for tightening these? Had a look on the web and most say 25ft/lb + 55 degrees. Is that correct or have i got it completely wrong? The rods dont have any details on what they need to be torqued to.Greg

Thanks agian to JP. Torque settings for the ARP2000 con rod bolts are 50ft/lb with ARP lube, back of, tighten 2nd time, back of and tighten 3rd time to 50-55ft/lb so will get the bottom end back together in the morning. Heard a horrible noise when I was fitting the oil pump earlier.
Was tightening the bolts up evenly to 20nm as per autodata then heard a chink which didnt sound good. Luckily the bolt hadnt completely sheared, will see if I can get a pic of it. Gonna check it out again tomorrow, but seemed to be tightening for ages, so going to check the torque wrench is ok before I do it tomorrow.
What torque setting does anyone else have for the oil pump?Greg
