Regarding Si's comment on track suitability of the 996 calipers, 314 A8 discs setup, I can seriously vouch for the capabilities of the setup, only yesterday on the Nürburgring, on the downhill straight that leads to the hard right turn just before Adenau bridge, I started braking a bit short
and the brakes really made a big difference in saving me from running wide into the sandpit...

Just a few reasons...
Experience - Probably half the forum are running the monoblock upgrade and it has been proven from road to track by most of us.
Cost - The afore mentioned monoblock setup uses A8 discs which are around £30 each.
Availability - Pads are available from every major pad manufacturer, offering a wide range of road through to full race pad materials.
Experience - Currently, people are working on a rear upgrade to match the monoblock fronts.
Cost - You are not tied to a single kit manufacturer, so plenty of competition.
Availability - What happens when they discontinue the kit as they only sold 50 sets? Porkker brake pads and Audi A8 discs will be available for the next 20 years
Experience - You can use the RAS hardlines, which made a HUGE difference to the brake pedal feel on my car.
Cost - My monoblock setup costs me £462 including the racing grade brake fluid.
Availability - A8 disks are already available from Brembo and GSF so you do not need to buy through steelers.
If the above does not convince you, then buy the kit for double the price and let us know how it works.
Cheers n
Si
P.S. Greg's point on weight is a fair point. The A8 discs are very heavy compared with the standard S2 discs and although the overall monoblock kit does not add much weight, since the calipers are much lighter, it does transfer the weight to the rotational part which is not good. However, I could justify the extra £400 just because of that.Leave a comment:

With the pads and rotors the porsche upgrade uses cheaper off the shelf parts. the custom kit requires more specialist rotors and pads which are more expensive but does have the advantage of being a lower weight reducing your unsprung weightLeave a comment:

Looks exactly like a renamed TAS set-up (after they went bust) same as I had on my Titan... discs and pads were very expensive to replace... eg £120 for pads and £200 each for rotors then they went bust and I couldn't get any!
Wasnt that impressed with them disc's lasted a max of 6000miles
plus I could cook them easly
plus they were very noisey!!

Pardon my ignorancehttp://www.midlandperformancecentre....n2=2090&p=1009
Rotor and pad replacement would be an issue in the future, plus the caliper's are older 2 piece design.
Why would the rotor and pad replacement be an isue?
What's the difference in performance between monoblock and 2 piece?
I'd been looking at the kit that fit's under 17" wheels
Not recomended then??Leave a comment:

For 16" wheels i don't think you can beat the monoblock porsche calipers and 314 A8 disk setup, loads on here use it and it works, sourcing replacment disks and pads isn't drama either!Leave a comment:
