Refreshing this old thread.
I've fitted 996 brakes in front with 323mm brakes. Still on original brake cylinders etc.
Feel the braking is a bit weak, takes a long time before it bites good.
Been bleeding the brakes, changed the "brake bomb" but wondering if I should do it once more.
So you bleed the furthest from the brake cylinders first?
So right rear, left rear, right front, left front in my case.
You bleed both of them but the outer one first, then the inner one right?
How "spongy" is the pedal feel for you guys that has similar setup?
Maybe new cars are just much better but I feel my Mercedes-Benz Vito will outbrake my S2 anyday

I have the 18z calipers with S4 rears. The initial pedal travel is long and the brake bite is very progressive. When you stamp on them it certainly stops the S2. I've just bled my brakes with a pressure bleeder and it's just the same with new fluid.

I know, but i want to be a 100% sure Its not OEM bolts, because its not a OEM brake calipers but bolts are high tensile 12.5

I don't think you need to loctite the bolts
You can reuse OEM bolts

Alex, can i remove calipers, where bolts are on loctite glue? Can i reused the bolts? around 2km ran these bolts

Bleed nipples at the top. Small piston must always be at the leading edge of the pad, large piston at trailing edge.
They are a pain to bleed sometimes, I had an issue recently with some trapped air. Bleed at least 500ml fluid through each caliper. Also cycle the pistons in and out to shift any pockets of trapped air.
Also check the hub is perfectly clean and that the disc has no run-out when mounted - that will push the pistons back into the bores and cause a spongy pedal.

and calipers bleeders are always on the top of the caliper, isnt it?

albert, u cant just change left caliper for right caliper and opposite...Because if u have one piston bigger and one smaller piston in caliper, always is that smaller piston get the brake disc first...And i am not sure if you change sides it will not problem with bolt-on...I think always is left and right side calipers...

Oh, I can't see any pictures. Whenever I have used 18z calipers I swap the pipe/bleeders as the pistons end up in the wrong orientation if one side is swapped to the other (L to R etc). Bleeders to the top dude!

If they are instsled like this than this is the issue tousing problems. You have some air there and it gets commpressed. It is all.

Hi all, would this be causing an issue with the braking performance though? I'm not sure they finally got installed like this as the picture above was just testing fitment. Will check when I get back later??
Albert, have you any other ideas to help with the brake pedal travel?
Many thanks for all your comments..

They might crack.
It is more easy to just swap the sides of the calipers

Yeah you have to swap the cross over pipe with the bleeders. At this time it makes sense to swap in speed bleeders.

the calipers where put upside down ! you cant vent them correctly now
Change sides left one should be on your right and the other opposite. Vents up !
