  • Sluggish/erratic tachometer (rpm only)

Have noticed for a while that my rev counter ain't as smooth as I used to be. Running MaxxECU Race last year as my VEMS wasn’t up for the job (regarding extra outputs and so on) where should I start? Is is dodgy soldering/wiring in the OEM harness or the tachometer itself? Dodgy G28 rpm sensor or what. Carelectric isn’t my best area of expertise. Don’t think it has anything with the maxxecu to do. Could a bad ground be a factor?

The tacho is mounted on a sub board which is connected to the main cluster board by small pins and sockets, a little corrosion or poor contact on these will cause in consistent RPM readings.
Remove the trip computer from the back of the cluster to see them.

What exactly should I remove, just checked the connection and solderings between the dials and everything looks great. Cannot see any corrosion. Do I need to split take out the dials and dissemble it further?

      forgot to mention that it’s a S6 I have, -95

Those are the 4 little sockets the pins of the tacho plug into.
Might not be quite the same on S6.
A tiny dab of contact cleaner and then flex the board a little to get the pins to move in the sockets usually sorts it.
On the S2 cluster the clock is connected by 2 pins the same.

Interesting, I didn’t find anything similar, tried to clean all connectors and wiggle away, but it’s like it’s erratic when driving but when you press the clutch it falls smoothly ?

didnt pull it apart further, maybe I need to investigate further
