Found the red bulbl part number (with sleeve over the glass). It is:
4A0 919 040 A Red bulb with holder - It's actually listed for the check-system in the ur-S6 and A4 dash
I have one on my desk in front of me - 1.5 watt (obviously to compensate for the fact that the red sleeve would make the standard 1.2 watt a bit too dim.

Guest repliedfor what it's worth, the v6-engined b4 80's in this country all seem to be fitted with red BULBS from factory.
the bulbs actually have a silicon coloured sleeve on them, and yes, they look much better.
maybe this is beacuse all of the v6's i have seen are actually used imports from japan ... might be a japanese market spec. thing?Leave a comment:

Right after waiting 4 weeks for some wedge bases to turn up from that Ebay seller linked to on the previous page - the feckers don't fit
The stock wedges are different - the eltching of the PCB is on the "inside" face, and twist on using the metal contacts are the 'lock.
The ones I've got have the contacts on the "outside" face and twist on with plastic tabs on the wedge body
I've looked about and can't find any the same desgn as the Audi ones

I'm interested!
Just read this thread back - a little tip for using LEDs - cover the lens tip with a blob of glue from a glue gun (not too much as you won't get it to fit
)
The glue acts like a diffuser and the LEDs output is slighly duller, but far less directional, and illuminates much more like a conv entional bulb.
Even the 'multi-directional' LEDs benefit nicely from this... give it a try ;
My wedge bases finally turned up today, so i'll be posting up some pics of the install and final 'look' in the next couple of days if anyone is interested

You don't need to get rid of the orange filter, pretty difficult anyway as its part of the gauge face, when you put the red LEDs in it makes it look much redder, orange is a mix of red and yellow and the red LED doesn't put out any yellow.Leave a comment:

I might try roughing up the LED lens with some sandpaper before installing them to help diffuse the light.Leave a comment:

But in the main intrument (cluster) how do you take out the dull orange face? Error404 and weak_uk, take some photos when doing it please!!!!! I have the T5 red LED on the Differential lock,front and back fog lights, ABS and the other one of the back window (dunno how is it called) switches... yeah, is a little focused light but once you got the right position... it looks nice whith a deep red color! HP_muirt, where do you get the LED difuser for the T5????Leave a comment:

It should do, I tried it with the diff lock. The colour was great, but the problem I found is that LEDs are too focused, so most of the light is concentrated directly ahead and that gives high and low spotsI am hoping that putting the Red LED`s in place of the standard white bulbs on the main instrument cluster will give me a vibrant red and get away from the dull orange. The red 'filter' in the current faces should allow the red light to flood through.
Fingers crossed....
I might try again with the new difuser LEDs
Cheers n
