A6 break in and consequent dash problems.

Firstly, sorry it's not an 'S', but it is still a high performance Audi and the problem may have occurred in other Audis. Anyway............................................ ....Someone (don't like to use bad language on the forum) managed to get into my 1999 A6 without setting off the alarm or damaging the car in any way. This has now led to some instrument cluster problems.
They also managed to get into my neighbour’s Passat without any evidence of break in. (We both now have crime report numbers relating to these break ins).
I assume these people have some way of over-riding the alarm system but it looks like it may have damaged my instrument cluster in some way too. When I drove the car, after the break in, all the instruments were dead and all the little red lights throughout the car were dead!
Next day, after driving the car 25 miles to work and back, the car was dead, so a new battery cured this and then all the instruments came back along with the all the little red lights throughout the car.
Don’t know if a disconnection/reconnection of battery has reset something?

Anyway, just wondered if anyone has experienced anything similar ?

    Cheers.
