Cos there is a BIG difference on the B5 platform wiring - its much better structured and organised (and safer) than the B4.

PS - If you need anymore MY95 schematics on that TDi let me know - I have the lot, but still chundering on the S2 specific ones for the website as higher priority.

I was starting to wonder if there was some change to the tint or the brightness of the illumination, or the graphics, or somesuch.

so they are generally not plug-compatible, but otherwise look the same cosmetically?

Paul, are you sure we are talking about the same thing though, because it is not the prefixes that change, but just all the suffixes that increment up by one letter (I still think it is at the start of MY95)?

It's because MY95 is when they changed all the wiring in B4 models to match that of the A4 which was released for MY95. I don't know why they changed things but presumably it was to unify the wiring design between the outgoing B4 80 models and the incoming B5 A4 models.

It's a right PITA as I've found when working on my TDi which is MY95.

Well they change at the end of MY95 actually but its a weird one alright - most of the part numbers change to 4A0 prefix in common with 100/S4/S6 family then for the MY96 year - very odd, but its last of the run on the Coupe so who can tell.

this one has been bugging me for some time...........

why do the part numbers for all dashboard switches change in 1995 (S) model year?
