Well there is definitely something weird going on here
I replaced the voltage regulator and the 15 amp fuse in S12. I then started her up and went for a drive. All seemed ok but the airbag light stayed on for some reason and then after a few hundred yards, the airbag light then went out followed by the rest of the dash pod.
So I'm now thinking that I need a new circuit board for the back of the dash pod
Thats a good candidate - just looked at the schematics - the voltage regulator is on S12 alright. It should output 10V when the key is on... Dare say you can find the part number for a new one - they are cheap as chips.
Aye, about £10 from the local stealer, part number 171 919 803
I don't have all the Avant schematics on-line yet but look at the 1994 Coupe and you'll see that the airbag light needs 12V across it to light up, and if S12 is blown then something weird is going on.

Well to update you all on this, someone at work suggested that I check fuse 12 which is a 15 amp fuse. I did this and sure enough it was blown. I then replaced it and fired her up and everything seemed ok at first. But later on I drove her home and after a couple of hundred yards, the airbag light wouldn't go out, and then suddenly all of the gauges stopped working again.
So after that, I'm kinda thinking that it's the voltage regulator
when I had a bad connection in my rear lights it was shorting the brake light and indicator, which was blowing a fuse, which in turn was knocking out all my clocks.
I assume that the connectors are all in place (as when my rev counter stopped working once it was because I had not seated the connector properly) and that the lights and computer etc are all working?
If everything else works, then my guess would be the voltage regulator. I have seen that in other cars, but I don't know what effect a failed voltage reg has on our dash clocks.
It is 30 seconds to change once the clocks are out of the car.
All of my gauges have suddenly stopped working, ie no speedo, rev counter, temp gauge, fuel gauge, aux gauges etc, and I'm a wee bit puzzled to say the least..
