Yes its dangerous, a leaking bomb will lead to brake failure.

i had a 16 valve do this, topped fluids up n it went away for the mot, came back day after!
    Leak on bomb i think
not check the 20 valve yet, but suspect bomb on that gone too
Anyone got one, buy my car and then fit your bomb!

Surely it's bound to go hard quick with the engine off due to a lack of servo assistance?

Will check all fluid levels and top up a bit anyway, and all plugs/wires nearby for a start then

It can also be the level senders themselves, check both the hydraulic and brake fluid levels and clean the connections to the level senders. Even better have some one sit in the car whilst you fiddle with both senders and see if either sets the warning off.

    Test write up http://www.s2central.net/brakes_06.html

Also note the PAS will trigger the same damn symbol.

Hmm. My peddle is rock hard all the time when the engine is off.

It moves a few mm but no more then that.

This has always been the case even after fitting a new bomb.

Be careful with the above test as it's a guide only and not always 100% true. I know my old bomb passed the above test and other members with duff bombs passed.

Good answer, will be trying this first!

Is there a thread for this bomb test? I've just searched and theres loads about it, mainly people saying they tried the test but nothing about what the test actually entails? From what I've just read it affects how hard/soft the pedal is but mine feels ok to me?

Also, I don't have to be braking for the warning to go off, and the amount of beeps I get varies, 1-3?

yeah the "Bomb" is a likely culprit...., tons of threads about this, but if all the fluids are ok and everthing else worls its noramlly the bomb.
Do search for "Bomb Test" to see how knackered yours is.

IIRC the Febi ones are about £120 delivered off Custom Auto Craft
