The sensor really has very little to do with airflow other than the automatic climate control set on automatic will not blow air until the water temp is a up enough so the airflow doesn't chill you. Otherwise it should blow hot air, as long as a) the fan is working and b) the directional flaps are working (controlled by small electric motors).
I suggest you check out this post and use the automatic climate control to perform a diagnostic of itself:
Part numbers for temp.sensor.

Thanks againI think what you are talking about is the climate control coolant temperature sensor, located in a T-fitting at the back of the engine. Info, regarding that sensor and the T are found (with AAN PNs, should be the same (?)) here:

Does this control wheter the heater blows or not? Sometimes it wont blow at all when I set it to max airflow thru the heater.Leave a comment:

But can anyone explain what the blue sensor which is located on in the hose on the drivers side( LHD-cars) Dont have any pciture to post at the moment, so I hope you understand what I meanOnly one of the two in the water-rail is a temp sensor (the MFTS), the other is a temp switch that turns the after-run pump on.
Here is a post (with PNs) that talks about the G62, the MFTS and the temp switch:
