I am experiencing an intermittant engine missfire at idle with my 7A coupe. The ignition system components are all new (within 10k miles). The vehicle has 145k miles on the clock. Compression is good. My question is about the infamous Hitachi injectors and the fuel system.
1)Does the ECU have selective cylinder shutoff function; can it detect and shut down the injector to a missfiring cylinder?
2)What are the symptoms of a failing injector; will it come and go intermittantly before it fails completely?
I suppose that the easiest thing to do is replace the injector with one of my spares but I wanted to know more about how it failed before throwing parts at it.
