Overboost cutout - when and how?

    Hi,

Yesterday had a test blast on the sleeping streets with my beloved coupe . I have a hole in the intercooler, not very big, however at higher levels of boost it leaks quite a lot (you can feel blowing with the hand).

At 0.4 bar (boost is controlled by mechanical boost controller set to 0.9 bar ) ECU cuts out the fuel. Check engine light is off, no fault codes . I'm now trying to figure out is it due to the boost leak, or there is some other problem, which is not recognized by ECU as fault, due to which engine is stalling.

If I put ECU with motronic safety routines disabled (so popular "killer" chips), engine boosts quite happily to the values set by boost controller and mixture stays I would say bit too rich (what is not surprising because I have a leak). No weird sounds (windows open, and operator very carefully listening :mischeif: ) also.

So main question is - can motronic ECU cut the fuel without saving "Overboost cutout" error into it's memory ? What conditions make ECU to do that ?
