Not sure how many Audi have themselves, maybe one for Ben to look into.

    .................................................. .................................................. ..........

One last thing, a big thanks to Spink for the ECU that I loaned from him with a view to buy.
    Thanks again mate

Thats an interesting bit of news then. I have a really bad feeling that some of these NLA parts are going to hurt us badly sometime in the future... As something like that will not be easily to 2nd source.

Beru are also the manufacturers of the OEM coilpacks.
It's price is significantly cheaper than the Bosch version.
Whether it would stand up to a high ouput engine, don't know and not something myself or my bro will be finding out.
It has however stood up to being run mercilessly on my bro's chipped ABY (anyone who knows him will understand what I mean).
I'm also using ABC POS'es. The main issue there can be switching time. But only the tuning guru's can tell if it can become a problem or not. Fairy tales tell, that using beru/hitachi units gives you less power, but dyno tells otherwise!

Cars always been a daily driver, always will be.
Shame to shut them away. Just makes our job harder trying to keep them in good condition.

    .................................................. .................................................. ....................

Forgot to add a something. The Bosch Power Output Stages (Audi part number - 4A0 905 351A)[Bosch part number - 0227100289] are now "obsolete - aka - NLA" from Bosch themselves. They have non in stock in the UK.
Direct from Audi, or through vagparts and maybe quattro corner, are the only place you are going to get them now.
    Once Audi's stock has gone, that's it................... but not quite;

This isn't a new find, as it's listed on some USA sites, I'm only stating it because of the fact Bosch now no longer make them or have any in the UK.

I have two spare Bosch versions "just in case"

Great tools cost an absolute fortune new..

That's a later one for 1.8T engines. Two separate plugs.
The version used on the S2 has a whooping connector which plugs straight into the main ECU connector

    .................................................. .................................................. ...............................................

Problem resolved. Was a short circuit of the wiring. The wiring that leads from the ECU to the connector on the input side of the POS for cylinders 4+5 had been rubbing on something inside the harness it disappears into. So the wires that carry the 5v impulse from the ECU to the POS were touching. Why this would cause just cylinder 4 to not run and why the fuse that covers this area (Engine Timing111, position 30, 20amp) didn't blow is anyones guess
    One for the archives.

    Good to have her back.

    Thanks for all the input.

Thanks Paul. I think they were using something like that. Very large Bosch "box" which plugged straight into the ECU's connector. Lots of switches etc on the top of it. Also had another piece of equipment that connected the main harness at the ECU connector to what looked like an ociliscope.
Will know more tomorrow when the lads are back at work.
