    Duh.

Oh, yeah, the world is ROUND.

But then again, you might not believe that one either.
Whilst I know nothing about you, you also know nothing about me so I suggest that you accept that there are different opinions in the world and stop being so rude. I think it's telling that you have resorted to abuse rather than showing me evidence or studies that support your arguement rather than suggesting that I do an experiment that has rather different parameters to the situation we are discussing.

I have had a quick look around and accept that a fine mesh gives a laminar flow but the mesh on the front of the MAF is quite large and this is the reason I am doubtful that it makes any real differece. However, the open weave also thankfully minimises the pressure difference and thus loss.

Finally, if this effect is so important then why did Porsche replace the mesh with a large plastic grid?

I'm curious to know why your car seems to perform better with a VR6 MAF, could your old MAF have been past it?

I'm sure that if you pour the liquid onto a representitve mesh then you would not see the collinder effect... the mesh is there for protection and not much elso IMO.

There is also a plastic kind of net in the airfilter box to prevent turbulens, i'm told that you should even keep that if you put a conefilter.

Try this experiment: Run some tap water through a kitchen collander or a strainer. Observe the water coming out the bottom.

Then think air flow throught the MAF.

In what way will a mesh stop turbulent flow over the wire? If it was a series of tubes or a long grid like the RS2 MAF then we're getting somewhere but a mesh... er, no. The tube around the wire does that job.

I've removed both meshes on mine as they're a small restriction but it all adds up. All runs tickedy-boo

I've removed the screens but then I've got a spare MAF from Slovenia and they're the best ones
