Well, it's not the HP that kills your gearbox, it's torque. With sensible remap and a good choice of turbo you can have good power, and keep that gearbox in 1 piece.

Larger IC is a bit problematic for UrS4/6, as there just isn't that much room inside bumper. Even more problems if you are like me, and ditching AC isn't an option . Well see what I'm coming up with, air-water IC to fit into stock location and keep bumper unmodified (plan is I might sell those as a kit, but not sure on pricing and availability) And before anyone asks, no I don't have any data on cooling ability, as my engine is still in pieces

Sounds like manual box and bigger IC are the first jobs to do...

    hmm

just a little word of advice, if your car is an automatic, you should not go to much higher in power than 300-310 or it will be the death of your tranny, the old auto trannys are not that fond of power..

The only thing that put me off doing the bigger intercooler first, was the amount of chopping that would have to be done based on what I have seen so far in the forum and the fact that my turbo is getting nosy too which dictates a new one.
I must admit though, I would also like to keep the front end looking untouched as well, although I do have a GRP Rieger copy front bumper in the garage that I thought could give the extra depth required for a larger intercooler without a major butchering exercise, etc. So that’s why I had the intercooler as a ‘one off’ job in 2010 when everything else had settled down.
I have now got two very good clear routes to go down and I just need to make my mind up but the end solution was to get the intercooler done. (May be first job, if somebody can show me pictures of a large intercooler set up fitted to a European S6 auto with an air-conditioning system as well, that still looks standard (ish))

If you were to set aside the IC, what would be the spool up time for the set up described in the last post or the one I postulated? (I am still after a quick response to the boost as in my car) The set up I suggested would be the final guise for my car, unless I see a nice intercooler set up! (Intercooler worth 30BHP?)

I think it is pretty obvious I would do the intercooler first if it looks correct and dose not look like a bodge job.

In an ideal world you want a bigger IC before mapping as it will allow the tuner to get the best out of the turbo due to lower inlet temperatures.

You can do it the other way but the map won't be optimised and inlets temps maybe higher than desired. It really depends on your budget and timing.

If you only want mid 350 then get.

    Rs2 turbo
    Rs2 injectors
Generic MRC high boost chip or S2central homefry
    Larger IC

It's the cheapest and easiet route as all the parts will be a direct fit and you getting 380 bhp minimal fuss.

The thing I've found is it's easy to get carried away on paper but the easier the upgrade the less hassle it is, trust me on this one

I have a rebuilt RS2 unit here (with 360 degree bearing) that I am thinking of parting with after developing a sensibility complex. If you are interested then please PM me

    Many thanks for the information.

I was hoping for around the mid '350 BHP' region so what you have indicated is more than I hoped for and that is good. I will steer clear of the new rod region too and concentrate on bigger brakes instead or a new gearbox if I blow it up!!

The bigger intercoolers I see, (i.e. the 034 Motorsport version, etc) will that dictate a remap as well or will I get away with that one for a few months or forever?

It's all going to be cheaper than another car and hopefully more fun too, not to mention it will not change the expensive insurance I have with Adrian Flux, as it is already for a modified car and extra mod’s will not change the price. (For once anyway!)

    Andy.

Changing the rods is going to really really increase your budget. For your spec on a 2871 you won't need it IMO

This the mistake I made with my Coupe, I should have kept it simple and run the standard engine and rs2 turbo I already had now i'm on a new car and new engine

Your looking at 400 bhp although Kalsket hit 450 bhp with his 2871 setup.

Look at a thread by Diesel Des for his 2871 setup.

So, based on what I have read and the forum guidance, I think I will go for the following when I have saved up over the next few months:

K26/GT2871 ((3” + 0.63AR) Turbocharger, plus any suitable plumbing, etc)
    New 034 Motorsport 3” hose
New original RS2 injectors but potential for 600cc if required. (Rather not go the 600cc route but will do if instructed but the only other mod will be a bigger intercooler in 2010 and probably another remap to boot!)
    Remap. (Reduced low end TQ)

The auto box in the ‘S6’ is supposed to be the same as the ‘S6+’ according to catalogue engineering but it might be on the limit in an S6+ anyway but has anybody gone well beyond the S6+ HP/TQ with this auto box. (I have had the auto box go into ‘limp home’ mode in the past through going past the TQ/rev limit!!)

Almost certainly I think the guidance will be for a custom remap to take all the above into consideration but I am interested in the alternatives.

What do you think the ball park BHP/TQ figures will be when all is said and physically done?

Lastly, if I did go for strengthen rods what would be a good guide cost and type? (Gulp)

    Regards,

    Andy.

    PS
I might be loosing the plot here but is there a section within the forum, which gives simple general menu based upgrade information based on standard engines and potential good evolutions there after?

You can run standard rods on the 2871, RS2 and 3071 with reduced low end torque

You would need the 034 hose with 3" inlet

I wouldn't use the 03 rs2 injectors personally. Either use the bosch RS2 ones or get 600cc ones which will not need to be upgraded in the future.

The decision on injectors will need to chosen in conjuction with what chip you'll be running.

2871 is awesome but needs to be mapped carefully on a car with standard engine internals FWIR. If your budget can stretch to one then there's little comparison, RS2 is best VFM but 2871/3071 are much newer and will give better results and potential. As for injectors, again, take advice from your chosen tuner really, RS2 injectors on a 2871 should be fine for a sensible map.

Rods are good for about 400ftlbs and with careful mapping can achieve 400bhp. Better to be safe than sorry tho and I'd prefer to spend the money on internals than turbo...

Auto isn't ideal... Big turbo requires upgraded clutch on manual cars so not sure what the torque convertor can take. I'm sure the information is on here, you'll just have to look!

I had been looking at a “K26/GT2871” (3” 0.63AR) + turbocharger from 034 Motorsport and a set of their ‘RS2 replica’ injectors as well. Would you know if this turbo would need a new MAF to turbo hose or would a new standard one be OK?

I am quite prepared to do a 'S2central fry up', as the car can stay up my drive and I am hoping I can flog off the MTM software as well. (New chips though)

    (My cars an auto though!)

At what point would I need to consider a rod change as I do not want to go down that route for a few years, if at all, if I can help it, etc.

    Cheers,

    Andy.

Reading your spec you've got 2 choices for more power, RS2 turbo which is bolt on, you'd need new injectors and a new map. MRC Highboost or S2central Homefry chips.

Or a 2871 turbo, again new injectors but also new oil and water lines. A full remap from MRC or 2871 homefry from S2central.

Your stock injectors would be a big limiting factor, if you used them with an RS2 turbo your limited to 315 bhp a good 65 bhp less than your turbo's potential.

AAN & ABY have a 2.5 bar MAP sensor as standard. RS2 got the 3bar one.
