cos i crashed his car with the engine in it lolit went to me by default. the second engine i was talking to you about was really only paperwork, crank and head were all stock units. we assumed the engine had died taking the crank and head with it. was bored out and still had the original ungine number...just wasnt 2.5 and wasnt ported ect.... would have been nice if he had known that before handing over the money tho

That's highly freaky considering the short year span of the AAT to AEL!

He got the block off me and I've had it side by side with an AAT and an AEL and apart from the smaller bore I couldn't see a difference. Even the AAT's are different acording to what year it is, I have an extra hole in the side of the block for a crank sensor that wasn't in the other AAT I had so I need to get a plug made to fill this. You will also need to drill and tap some holes for the knock sensors as these aren't on any of the derv variants.
I'll update my thread with all the changes that are not listed in Marco's thread when I've done them.

I wish I had but at the time that would have meant to O-ring the block with a copper gasket and I didn't want that so went 82mm with OEM head gasket.

Then my nemesis goes and makes OEM gaskets with 83mm bore

    Maybe next rebuild

Famous last words you maybe right

Even the AEL is different from the AAT and requires adaptation around the flywheel cranksensor.

The AAT block is best by far to use less hassle.
