While I am at it!
I am preparing the beast for it's service and yearly repair works and I have downloaded the engine codes.
00561 (Mixture Adjustment Control.)
00540 ((Knock Sensor 2-G66) I have know about this code for about 6 to 7 months)
00513 ((G28 Engine speed sensor) Could this be down to the engine not turning while the fault diagnostics codes are being taken?)
And in that order!
Can the knock sensor cause the other two codes? (Especially the 00561 code?)
I have two new genuine knock sensors I will be fitting, as well as a new ignition switch the beast decided to eat a few weeks ago. (Causes allsorts of wonderful issues with the car!)
If the other two codes are indeed defects where is the other kit fitted?
Could the knock sensor cause a mid range misfire? (If you exclude full blown limp home mode!) I have been down the vacuum leak avenues many times and there is nothing wrong in that area, nor is the ignition system defective either, I am just wondering if I have in fact had a problem with the knock sensor for a number of years and only now is it being logged as a hard fault! Could it have been the main cause of the random mid range WOT misfire I have had for years?
Lastly, what losses would a twin pipe Audi exhaust give compared to a single bore pipe system? I had a MTM cat back fitted a few years ago and although it is slightly larger than the standard exhaust in diameter (i.e. 2.3") would a twin bore 2.3" exhaust give better flow than a single bore 3" System?
I am just wondering, as the awful free flow 200 cpi cat's I had fitted a few years ago are going to be taken off by the local sleeping policemen if I do not watch it and I would rather get them replaced and use the MTM twin bore cat back if I can rather than a full replacement, if the difference is negligible.
The other thing I noticed was the bore size of the pipe used to replace the original Audi kit is smaller than the MTM stuff!!! (2" compared to 2.3"!!!) Not impressed at all!!! I will have the new kit in the same size pipe, etc. I could not believe it until I saw it!! (While I am thinking of it, could restricting the exhaust size cause mid range issues too?)
i.e.
Single 3" = 7.065"²
Twin 2.3" = 8.3053"²
Many thanks,
Andy H.
