mapping is a principle thing. get the basics of gas law and engine timing and the rest is usually ok.
its solving the issues thats potentially gonna be a headache.
after that all systems are much of a muchness from what ive seen. its just learning the little bits about the software products.
vems for the I5 on pnp is on the easy side shall we say. no wiring, creating of loom, setting up sensors, injectors, ignition, how to fire ignition etc etc.
you need to be very careful though as doing things wrong may pop the engine. always be aware of what affect the change will have before you make it.

I believe that anyone can map VEMS,it only depends if they want to.Also the fact that someone can actually have the equipment to listen for knock and a dyno, pretty much can tune with any standalone. However if you are used to doing one thing and are familiar with that, you dont ask that mapper to try to do something else for you. YOu just go to the person who is good at doing that excact thingLeave a comment:

There are ways of getting a bigger IC at the front of s4's/s6's i'm going to be doing this in a month or so's time.Hi - Interesting about the two smaller intercoolers. I'm trying to decide how to upgrade the IC on my urS6, and given problems with front bumper space, was wondering whether I could just add in another intercooler same size as stock, maybe down in the other corner. Would certainly be a very cost-effective way of doing things!
How do your 2 intercoolers plumb in and where are they positioned?
cheers,
Tom

Out of curiosity is there an MRC US tuner? Sounds like the guys to do the job when it comes to mix and matched parts on motronic systems.
Sorry I know the topic is on the UK market but why not ask

Yes he's good with Porsches no doubt but for the S2 type engine beyond Mihnea there's only a few people in Europe who are on the same level.
VEMS is an aftermarket ecu any good remapper should be able to do a good map, where you need support in VEMS is getting a good initial basemap with the ecu and setup issues that can occur.
I hear Repo has some good Vems mapping experience.Leave a comment:

Straight up who is the gurus of Motronic in the UK? Furthermore who is the gurus of VEMS? This thread is becoming very confusing to those who will take this information and still be f&ckin confusedLeave a comment:

thats not great then. ive seen G60 mapping and compared with others it was good. not really up on checksums me.
he's done race porsches etc. just goes to show eh.
thats why i like standalone. i know exactly whats in there and am willing to show in detail to anybody ive helped.Leave a comment:

My car had a map from him when I bought it, see here http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showpos...5&postcount=20
Incorrect checksum on ECU great mapping

its more or less a lose-lose mapping.
you can do great work, flog you guts out and have 1 bad engine maybe not caused by the mapping and your reputation can be destroyed by those who wouldn't know their *** from elbow. sometimes its the owners fault for not driving properly. mega high speed runs then lifting off. who gets the blame?
ive seen maps that are bad, poor timing curves but ok fuel. these keep running nowhere near their power potential but cos they dont break even though they are a waste of money to the owner the mapper is a god.
ive seen wayne@chipwizards maps and they are good. i cant comment on any others in the audi world as i like to know whats in there myself.Leave a comment:

So is Mihnea, I know of cars he's spent into the morning light mapping such as Volcano RS. Pays your money takes your choice at the end of the day.
I just know from the problems Ross had with Automark with the 600 cc injectors being to large to map with and him having to use smaller injectors etc and the fact the car is done on wastegate only boost.
Better off with an aftermarket EBC than wastegate boost aloneLeave a comment:

I could not agree more with the above comments, I have been there quite a few times till the small hours and at that time of the morning as you want to go, you wish that sometimes Mark was not such a perfectionist. As said above you pays your money and makes your choice.
My UR was mapped by Mark and personally i wouldn't by choice use anyone else for this car. Mark has mapped it with standalone and Motronic.
I opted to have the N75 valve removed firstly they are rubbish and secondly the response of the car is dramatically changed, some would like it some wouldn't.. my ur is savage in its power delivery and given the occasional use it gets i wanted to build it so it scared me when i used it.
A further point on the N75, if you opt for a ball bearing turbo it will generally be to efficient for your car & most definitely if you have not modified anything else.
Removing the N75 with a small BB turbo will create surge highlighting the inefficiencies of the inlet track and exhaust system.
Admittedly some safety features are removed but that was my choice, dont see many S1's with a N75. Furthermore if safety features concerned me it would of all stayed standard.
My RS4 will be mapped by MRC as i am not going radical i will be keeping the N75 (its on its third of these rubbish things already) and in truth given the volume of RS4's that MRC work on it probably makes sense.
I'm not saying MRC are not as i have no experience, but Mark is an utter perfectionist he has stayed mapping my cars until 3am in the morning as he is not happy until every single item of the map has been viewed and adjusted to his satisfaction.

Because the OP has used Minhea exclusively before and so trusts and values his opinion, i assume. I also dont think that Minhea is the kind of bloke to slate another mapps work if he thought it was good.
Im not commenting on Mark's commitment or standard of work, quite simply because ive never used him so wouldnt know.
People on here are talking great things about him, and thats fantastic.
However going from friends and family that have had work done by him i personally do not agree with the way he maps the car and with stick with homefries/MRC for my car. My preference.
You summed it up perfectly - pay your money, take your chance. I just prefer to leave as little to chance as possible.Leave a comment:

I use a gated "T" valve on top of a 2 bar spring (so not that wasteful or inefficient) the wastegate cant creep as it see's no boost until the desired boost is reached hence removing the smoothness of waste gate creep. The take off is pre MAF (as its on the pressure side) so no change in mixture.Mihnea and I were mapping the golf at 2am
I have never used Mark so cant comment about his work.
One thing i will say tho, im surprised that you find the car more agressive WITHOUT an N75 controlling boost. IME, i have always found WG only boost to be 'smooth', but when mapped with N75 i found my S2 brutal.
And N75's dont go wrong that often, shocked that you have had 3
My view is you have to keep testing else the learning curve stops, hence two small interccolers as opposed to one large one on my car. All in the chase of development...
Me to with regards to N75's b****y things..Leave a comment:
