Fuel sensor and instrument panel oddities

Hey there,Hi Sasha,
Nice to hear that blue RS2 found a home, we looked at it as well as one of our club members wanted to purchase it as well.
I am assuming this is the same car that was on kijiji?
I have an S2 avant myself. My friend has a Volcano Black RS2 and one of the guys in Ottawa just imported a blue one from Europe. Welcome to the club..
If you need any help I have ton of documentation and factory manuals as well as ton of spare parts.
Apart from this our group meets up on every first Thursday of the month in Etobicoke...mosly old school guys with Quattro's and S cars.
I've attached a picture from our September meeting where 11 Urquattros showed up.
Hope to see you there next Thursday!
I indeed picked up the Kijiji listing and have spent the last six months investing into it! It's an awesome car, tons of fun but, as we all know, challenging!
I don't know if I can get out to Etobicoke on Thursday but I may join you another day. I'll connect via PM so we can connect via email as I'm much more on top of those messages.
Cheers,

RS2 info
Parts-wise and how they are put together, I strongly recommend that you become familiar with this website:
http://audi.7zap.com/en/rdw/audi+80+...o/rs2/1995-41/
Also this live engine bay device map (developed for the AAN but works well for the ADU as well when you are trying to sort out engine-related issues):
I am PM'ing (private mailing) you here in a moment.

Thanks! I've got a decent shop that has experience on the S2, one of the owners has one, but less so with an Avant.
I am hoping that the first six months are the painful ones as it's really been one thing after another.

Sorry I missed your post. Just saw it now and contacted an S2 Avant owner in the TO area who hopefully will be able to help you. (The RS2 is based on the S2 Avant so many similarities). I think there is an RS2 or two in the TO area but I don't know them. The closest ones are Montreal. But the S2 owner should be able to help sort you out.
That said, aftermarket alarm systems are typically a nightmare for the next owner. You might have to remove it. (or Not).

Update time ...
It turns out the fuel line was indeed messing with the float which immediately addressed the half-full issue. The trip calculations didn't immediately come back online but once we pulled the steering wheel off as well as the instrument panel it came online again. The funny thing is that everything looked like it was plugged in when it was initially removed but still didn't work. Regardless, it's working again .... HOWEVER ...
Now I'm having issues with the immobiliser. The car will now only intermittently recognize the key as legit and won't start about half the time. This is a new issue and really is quite weird. I've tried unlocking / locking / unlocking the door while having the car in the ON position with the key but I still get the flashing lock light (yellow) come up a bunch.
There is an aftermarket remote installed by a previous owner and what's even weirder is I have a replica key cut that shouldn't really work to start the car but it does work occasionally.
Anyway ... this s*** is doing my head in a bit so any thoughts would help!
Sasha
PS - Thanks again for all the help with the other issuesLeave a comment:

To get into the tank you have to remove the cover, i.e. disconnect the two fuel lines and electrical connections from it, then unscrew the outer ring and lift it out.
The fuel level float is connected to to the bottom side of it so have a look at the direction the metal rod is pointing, then re position the plastic fuel line from the pump so it doesn't get in the way. It will be fairly obvious when you get in there and take a look.Leave a comment:

In doing this did you have to remove the access cover in the tank or do I need to detach all the connections and remove the trim ring to get access to the tank?
Sorry for the dumb question but I want to be sure before opening up the tank and messing with the fuel supply line.

I am! I bought it from someone who imported it from Japan earlier this year. Quite a few fixes needed to be done but she's purring pretty well as of today
I'm Toronto based if you know any other RS2'ers!
Thanks for the offer of help!

SashaG: Are you really in Canada with an RS2? If so, I know where a few other Canadian RS2s are residing and could maybe hook you up with some RS2 help.

The fuel gauge issue is caused by the position of the fuel hose coming out of the pump to the access cover in the tank. You have to angle the hose towards the rear of the car so it doesn't get in the way of the float level, BTDT

Hey ... thanks for the help so far.
Both were working perfectly fine before hand and the button on the stalk does seem to function as it did flip to one of the other trip settings once before locking back in on the 1/100km. I'll get into the tank in the next few days and report back.Leave a comment:

Yeah, my guess would be that the float for the level sensor is getting caught on something in the tank, especially as you or someone else has been in there recently to replace the pump.
It's likely that the trip computer fault is something to do with the switch or poor connection, though I'd fix the level sender first as if it's giving an implausible signal it might cause the computer to spaz out.
Were either of the issues present before the fuel pump was changed?Leave a comment:
