  • Upgrading to Aftermarket Exhaust Headers – Worth It?

    Hey everyone,

I’m thinking about upgrading my car with aftermarket exhaust headers. I’ve read they can improve horsepower and torque, but I’m curious about the real-world benefits.

Has anyone noticed a significant performance boost, or is it mostly a sound upgrade?

Also, are there any specific brands you’d recommend that balance cost and quality?

I drive a mix of city and highway, so reliability is important. Any tips on installation challenges or things to watch out for would be great.

It's hard to give any advice without knowing what engine/car you're talking about, but if it's a 7A five pot 20V then the factory tubular manifold is pretty damn good and not worth changing.

If it's a turbo car then the general rule is the bigger the downpipe the better, but 3" is large enough for well over 400bhp. As for turbo manifolds then an RS2 or decent copy would be much better than a stock AAN/ABY etc.

A Wagner RS2 Evo exhaust manifold is the best bet for a turbo if you can find one. I would avoid the eBay tubular stainless steel manifolds, they're made from very thin pipe and will crack over time plus they relocate the turbo meaning new oil/water pipe work and no airbox.
