  • Audi S6 2.2t 20v original catalyst

    Hi!
I bought new catalytic original converters for Audi S6 2.2t 20v. There are white bands like plastic on the front and back of the catalytic converter cell. Do they need to be left there or do the tapes need to be removed before installing the catalytic converter?

Anyone know? The Audi dealership can't tell me anything.438267700_277507668756304_1144729569811727476_n (002).jpg

I don't know the answer; but it seems like those would melt.

I've fitted a lot of brand new replacment Cat's on various makes and models and have never seen anything like that before. They get very, very hot inside so I really can't think of a good reason for what appears to be plastic to be in there.

I'm 99.99% sure that's something left over from quality control that should have been removed.

If it comes out easily I'd remove it as melted plastic will ruin your lovely new Cat's permanently.

You could try asking an exhaust specialist just to be sure but I really can't think of a good reason for those bit's...
