    i gives it a slippery surface as it's not always just the spring or workings that are the problem.i've done it to her vectra,my escort and the s2.i must admit the results were better on the escort,it nearly put the buckle through my window because it recoiled so fast. haven't you noticed a diference?

    This does pose another problem though.... If the belt has pre-tensioner how can I safely set it off or permaently disable the old one....

    :mischeif: More to the point can I have some fun with it before taking it to the recylling center! Not condoning any sort of such behaviour of course.... :mischeif:

    I bet airbags can be a hoot if set off in a 'proper' manner, once out of the car - in order to make then safe pre disposal of course.....
    Just to clarify as my post could be read the wrong way, the pretensioner is part of the reel, it doesn't unbolt from the reel etc. I had to replace the whole lot, reel with attached pretensioner and the whole belt itself. They come as one unit.
    When mine blew, it pulled me back into my seat "violently" and bruised my shoulder.
    No idea about setting it off, wouldn't want to really because of the above;

    See vid below to watch the three spoke airbag wheel blow. I had that same type of airbag fire "hard" up my nostrils and believe me, it "wasn't" funny in the slightest.

    Just to add if you need to remove old worn one, and replace.
    IIRC (may be wrong) but didn't all RS2's have airbags? If so the seatbelts for the front will have pretensioners on them, small tubular pyrotechnic device sticking out of the reel itself, you can't miss it.
    I had to change my drivers side after my little mishap two years ago, "flippin" expensive new, but I was lucky enough to grab one off ebay NOS.
    I was unsure if just unbolting and removing it would be ok, so treated it in exactly the same way as when disconnecting the airbag on the steering wheel, I disconnected the main battery, then left the airbags power pack to discharge for 30 mins or so.
    I had to reset the subsequent airbag light on the dash afterwards with vagcom.

    Also, try pulling the seat belt right out a few times and slowly letting it back in, they can get a little slack in them towards the centre of the reel that hampers them returning...

    Cheers,

    Steve.
