  • Correct steering damper for RS2 and S2

There is lots of good material on this site regarding steering dampers. For example: https://www.s2forum.com/forum/techni...teering-damper

It seems that Stabilus manufactured the original damper for the RS2 and S2. On RHD cars, the original factory part was stamped 321 425 021, and this same damper was also used in the VW Passat and Audi 80 Cabriolet. From what I can gather, the Audi replacement part 8A2425021 is not currently available.

My confusion is this: some posts recommend the Stabilus 6784HX as the correct and readily available replacement part. It has a resistance/tensile force of 500N. However, other posters have advised the use of another Stabilus damper with a resistance of 900N.

They can't both be right, and the difference is fairly significant! Anyone already been down this rabbit hole?

Nice find! Though I'm not sure I can get my head around paying 141 Euro for a part that has a VW logo on the box instead of 33 Euro for the identical Stabilus part from Spareto.

This may be one of the best options out there, at this time.

I found the inspiration in a long dormant build thread on Motorgeek by Funkweasel, and not only is it a direct fit but it's very reasonable price wise. Hopefully it's more robust design doesn't over-dampen the steering for most.

The old one was totally shot and my rack had a bunch of play so it's miles better but hard to compare apples to apples.

It feels no different than my cabriolet though - so I guess that says it's the same?

I took mine off years ago, certainly haven't noticed any negative affects from not having it.
