Good point, rack is leaky and fluid needs a top up fairly often. I won't order a new pump just yet..

It's typical of a "normal" pump. Mine's been like yours for 130,000 miles and yet to fail.

I did at one stage replace my pump with another one which was just the same so I reverted to the original one and it's still going strong.

Noisy PAS pump when cold - on its way out?

Noticed a loud tappety noise when the engine was cold and investigated to find the PAS pump making a racket. It quietens down when the engine is warm but is still sounds a but noisy through a screwdriver stethoscope.

Is this typical of a knackered pump needinga new or rebuilt one?
