  • Gearbox Improvements?

    Hi Everyone.

As i'm in the process of more than doubling my cars original power (90q Sport MY 91) i need to start thinking about the strength of the standard transmission and its components.
Now i'm not exactly sure what my gearbox code is but i'm pretty sure it's the same 5 speed as fitted to the 3B models?? The box that's in the car at the moment is the original one which has done 140K and feels somewhat loose and sloppy for want of a better description.. With this in mind i managed to get hold of a cheap spare so that i'm prepared when i need to replace it.
I intend to take the spare to a specialist to strip it down and check that all is ok and was wondering if there's anything i could do to strengthen or improve it whilst it's apart?
I am toying with the idea of a 6 speed also but would rather see what my options were with the box i have before i decide which route to take.
Additionally is there anything else i should be planning to check or improve in the transmission? I'm currently on the lookout for a decent rear diff and will be re-newing the prop linkages to tighten this side of things up but is there anything else?
Your comments and BTDT's would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

    Russ
