Perhaps I got so few miles out of set of the UniRoyal's due to them giving me a lot of confidence to slide the car about on gravely roads and forest tracks... Also I was using 205/55/16's with full RS2+ spec whereas I'm guessing your using a 17" or 18" wheel?
Other brands I've found that produce good tyre's at a lower price point are...
Avon's, which I've already mentioned and Barum as well as Toyo, Yokohama and Hankook.1989 B3 2.0 3A 80 quattro. Long term project.
