  • Catch tank fitted

Finally got round to fitting one of Dom’s catch tank on the weekend, after my PVC system had been badly leaking ever since I got the car.

As the battery is still in the original location I had to mount the tank on the other side of the engine bay.

All in all it took about 4 hours. This included removing all the bits that were in the way, removing the whole PVC system including the pipe that runs form the MAF hose to the T piece that joins PVC to the solenoid/ charcoal filter valve.

    Here are a few pics…

Prepared Newsh’s masterful adapter with the new hose, - The 8mm stuff runs to the exit on the back of the cam cover (left side). The 22mm stuff runs to the catch tank, and the 30mm end joins to the lower crank outlet.

Refitting the 30mm connection was the most difficult and took best part of an hour to get everything lined up and tightly fitted as access is extremely restricted.

Connected the solenoid valve straight to the back of the cam cover with some 8mm hose. (right side near the vacuum hoses)
Also plugged the MAF exit with a little 20mm plug.

Used the old pipe that feeds from MAF to PVC T piece for the new exit of the catch tank.

Would hate to know the dealer price on that pipe....

                      The Results were astonishing.
The engine is now running much better, it seems to boost quicker too, and is no longer do the manic flapping at 1.4bar.

                      Cheers Dom and Newsh!

No not draining back to sump.
Just letting it collect in a meter of pipe that is tapped at the end. It needs emptying every 1 - 2 months but doesn't really collect much, used to collect way more in the winter but i think that was mostly condensation building up in the tank over night.

Got another one of these to do now as i just bought another S2 and its covered in oil down by the crank breather. Infact most of the PCV system is completely perished.
