  • Where's the Gearbox Filler Plug?

I'm looking to do a gearbox oil change on my ABY Avant.

I've studied the family album and found where the drain plug is but can't see where the filler plug is. Can anybody point me in the right direction.

Also is this the sort of job I can do with the car on axle stands on the drive or do I need to get it up on a lift to get access?

    Cheers

The biggest problem is getting the drainplug open!

It's a right b*tch, also if you buy a new plug from audi not a hex anymore it's now a security torx.

Good thing, the allen bolts / hex bolts are really crappy.

Thanks Prosty. That's just what I needed.

Jamo. Thanks for the tip about the drain plug. I'll be making sure I can get the filler and drain plugs undone before I get too far into the job.

Do you just fill up till oil runs out the filler hole or is it a bit more complicated than that?

          Cheers

It's a bit more complex. Your suppose to fill to 7mm below drain plug level.

Get an Allen Key and mark on it 7mm from the bend and use that as a guide.

                Its easy to refilll mate
Just get a length of old hosepipe (or cut a bit off your reel),cut it approx 1 metre length, pass it down from engine bay side and go under the car and locate the end in the filler hole..Then use a small funnel back up top again to pour the oil in. Measure the correct amount in less 1/2 litre of oil and check the level...and top up as required

Though talking of fluid transfer pumps I may get a Umeta Fluid Transfer Pump to do my rear diff. Available from www.difflock.com

Btw, Does anyone know if the Torsen on an Auto can be drained and refilled with oil?, I can't see any plugs on it...
