  • Blink Code Reader Group Buy - Just a thought

Hi Guys, I quickly knocked up a little box to read Blink Codes when I cant be bothered to get VagCom hooked up.

I was thinking, as the parts only come to about £4 in total how about I make some more up for say around £6+p&p, with the £2 extra per unit going back to help fund this forum. I have no idea how much it costs to keep the forum going, but as Tesco says, "every little helps". Maybe charge even more per box?

It would be great for peeps who do not have VagCom to keep in their glove box. I guess those that do have VagCom could even keep one in the car when they are out and about.

I know that it is easy enough to go out and faff around with some paper clips and a 12v LED, but if you are away from home you wont have these bits to hand and probably wouldn't remember how to connect it up!

The finished unit will be finished in a durable black ABS box (50x35x17mm) with a big square switch, and a 5mm led. There will be 4 colour coded wires, terminated with mini spades to push into the Diagnostic sockets. A connection diagram will be printed on the back, and some simple instructions on the front.

What do you guys think? Sorry if it is a gimpy suggestion

Some pics of my box (The new ones will be smaller and the 4 wires will be better quality!)

Sounds quite good as a temp measure etc to find out codes if you are out and about.

Its not a gimpy idea at all. Fairplay for the suggestion and especially the offer to push any profits into the forum kitty - tremendous. That photo looks like its a rough ready little thing and maybe not as small as it could be - but still - for that money its a handy thing to have in the glovebox when VAG-COM aint around and you dont have the blink light wired into your cluster. The only extra thing it needs to make it really valuable is a handy little card/booklet that tells you what the codes actually mean... and potential fixes to the problem - handy at the roadside or what... Or just a URL on the back that points to a mobile-phone browser friendly site where the codes can be found and lots more info below that.

I'll be happy to help with this as required. Its a good idea I think !

Now thats a great idea As Paul said it could be make much smaller but thats only a cosmetic thing. You should also try selling them on ebay, wouldnt be surprised if they sell like hot cakes.

Yeah the unit I plan to knock up will be much smaller and not quite as shabby!... This was just lashed together in a lunch time at work with some odds and sods I errr found in the scrap bin - Honest!

Yeah a small booklet breaking down the blink codes is a good idea. I was just gonna knock up a PDF and post it on here if anyone wanted to print it off. I love the idea of a Phone browser compatable page!

Yeh - and I'll charge 5 squillon pence a minute for access to the mobile website for roadside assistance. heheheh - no but really it is the essence of a nice simple cheap idea that will be a handy addition to the glovebox of many an Audi or VW. Some oddball engines don't have blink codes so watch for that !

You'd need to put the price up to cover your time making the boogers though.

A lil search function would be neater though - just enter the code in a dialog box and you get told whats wrong... rather than sifting the whole list.

You beat me to it... Yeah a little search box where you just enter the 4 digits, then up pops the fault description and possible causes - Neat!
