Don't do it, it looks FUGLY.
Keep them chrome.

De-chroming the outer frame looks good and is particularly effective on lighter colour cars

I agree with prj on this, black rings just look plain wrong. Keep them chrome, if you must try use vinyl wrap so you could remove it later.

My Avant had a blacked surround and I gunmettaled the rings which looked good I thought compared to all out black. I now have a carbon wrapped surround and chromed rings grill to put on.

I think the colour of the car has a play here, looks good with lighter more striking colours.

I got a grill of ebay, and have stripped and blacked it, only takes couple of mins to change it. So one week chrome, other week blacked!!!
