    ABZ 4.2L Ecu questions:

    Hi everyone.

I figured it make more sense to post here and maybe I'll get more feedback here too vs the other forum. I posted on another forum about a particular engine swap. I've got a complete 4.2L ABZ engine and engine harness. For a while there I was considering standalone engine management but now I'd like to look into the idea of running OEM if possible? Now I'm in the states. As far as ABZ 4.2L engines are concerned. None of them came with manual transmissions. I've spent the past three nights reading schematics and making spreadsheets so I can figure out the ABZ harness out. My harness part # is 4d1971713an. I don't own an ecu yet but I could get one for $100.00. This ecu however is for an automatic transmission setup. However it will match my engine harness. There is another computer specifically for the transmission but i'm not sure yet how much it talks with the engine ECU. Now, also there are 4 02 sensors on American ABZ engines. That get's expensive. I'm wondering If I were to get a custom remap some how if this were to work if I could delete the two post Catalytic converter 02 Sensors. Also, As far as flywheels are concerned. I'm going to use a OEM 3.6L manual flywheel (hopefully used). I'd like to have a 60-2 setup machined into if possible, but if not I could run a 60-2 setup on the front crank pulley.
The G28 engine speed sensor is an inductive sensors in the 1997 ABZ engines. Will this work with a 60-2 setup and I'm not even sure yet if that's how manual transmission 4.2L COP ignition v8 engines work? There is only one connector for a engine speed sensor. However there is a Cam position sensor but I'm pretty positive that COP ignition runs on either a 135 tooth ring or 60-2. Does anyone know if the ignition in an ABZ engine runs on a 135 tooth ring or 60-2. I've seen a guy on audiworld who did an automatic to manual transmission swap on a 5 valve engine setup. My engine setup however is a 4 valve setup. The reason why I mentioned the 5 valve setup is because I noticed that he used a 2.7T aluminum flywheel becuase it bolts up. The 4 valve engine is a 10 bolt flywheel setup while the 5 valve engine setup is an 8 bolt setup that happens to match the v6 engines.

    So what's my questions?

What might I need the automatic transmission Computer for at all?
Can I get the Engine ECU to ignore the transmission ecu?
Does the ABZ engine run on an inductive sensor or hall sensor for ignition? I suspect inductive.
Do I have to convert to 60-2?
If I do not have to convert to 60-2 do I have to some how add a G4 wire setup?( aka audi term of the PIN setup in the flywheel that reads 60 degrees before TDC?)
Is there a European ECU for a manual tranny setup that will work on my engine harness? If there is a european ecu can u get around the immobilizer setup with needing a immobilizer emulator? p.S. audi ABZ engines in the states do not have the type of immobilizer used in europe. There isn't any white box with a 93c46 Eeprom.

    Thanks
    Josh

I'll add more as it pops into my head.

It's 3:00am in the morning and i'm still up and slowly learning the Schematics and also other items. Even if i go standalone I have to figure out the harness anyways. So I mine as well learn the whole harness.

So www.audi.de has PDF files of older models. I searched the Audi A8 D2 platform cars and well guess what... none of them with a 4.2L or a 3.7L have manual transmissions so says www.audi.de

WTF... I had a bad feeling that that would be the case.

    I'm still open to options.

I chose not to choose life: I chose something else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who need reasons when you've got quattro?

Josh, looks like you've answered most of your questions. What was the answer?

The bloke on Motorgeek 'hilly' who has put the audi V8 into the Lotus esprit built his own loom and runs vems,he has also built a couple of looms for people doing the same conversion.Would save you a major headache, plus you would also have to get the standard ecu de-immobilised i should think.
