Gotta say though... Seems a bit weedy with 256mm vented on that path tested a longtime back by Ben (and TT discs - yuck)

If those B5-S4 calipers accomodate a 22mm disc, and the handbrake is good on B4 location - then there should be no reason why the A8/S8 carriers for 280mm and those 8E0 discs spun down to that size shouldn't work. Assuming the B5 S4 caliper is same style as RR/UrS4/S2 then the pads specified on the 280/8E0 COupe upgrade should be great too...

Would one of the brake gurus like to confirm this idea with B5 S4 rear calipers on A8/S8 carriers with the B7 S4 disc reduced to 280mm diameter ?

Or maybe some kind guineapig with B4 Avant/Sedan would like to try it out ?

It would be much cheaper than the full-blown 300mm setup from B7 S4.

Often the problem with most of these upgrades is sourcing all the parts from different places and knowing what go get, so supplying the lot, and offering to turn the discs down as well is an absolute bonus

As a B4 Avant you have two main options ---

1. The full monty B7 / 8E0 version with 300mm discs, calipers, pads & carriers ==> expensive though

2. The other B5 sourced vented conversion - I can't find details, but sure Ben or someone had a good thread on it.

@Pete - That is an absolutely stonking price on that - phenomenal in fact...

Only way to make that kit better is to throw in a handful of 1mm thick washers to space the carriers out !!!!!

These are the parts that people keep asking for-

B7 Disc, 300x22 vented - 8E0 615 601R (2-off)
A8/S8 carrier - 4D0 615 425C (2-off)
Calipers from RR quattro or UrS4/S6 - 447 615 423 and 447 615 424
S8 pads for those 280mm discs - 1J0 698 451L
50mm long caliper carrier bolts - N101 815 02 (4-off)... Shortened to ~35mm for the task

Also recommended along the way is new brake lines and clips for handbrake...
S2 Coupe rear hose - 893 611 775 (2-off)
Brake union clip clamps - 4D0 611 715B (2-off)
Handbrake cable lock clip - N900 527 02 (2-off)
