i have found the UK bank transfer really fast and accurate as well, esp. with the online banking system

The problem is they charge to transfer to an eu bank outside the uk and can charge you to receive hence why its not popular here

that might explain it, will be because you don't use the € that the bank charges for payment from and to other countries.
