I have heard before that if a european car for instance was shipped over to the USA that has not had all the extra safety/emissions ****** that all their cars need, customs would seize the car and crush it. I believe Canadians have a way round it though.Maybe someone from the other side of the pond can tell us more?

Dunno if the US DOT have the right to crush cars which are not safety tested as you say, but they certainly can prevent them being legally registered. This is why the US members of this forum get into building S2 Coupes from 20V CQ's.

AFAIK a European car can be converted to US specs. Like windscreens, bumpers, smog control and so on. But it would get really expensive and may not even be possible in some cases.

My friends dad imported a 98 Morgan and he had to raise the bumpers among other things. And after the inspection it lowered them back

I doubt they crush them. They might cease them and have a little fun tho.

I heard somewhere that removing the engine and shipping it seperately gets round it as neither shipment is considered a whole car - just parts.
