"Virgin" S2 owner with so many questions

Just finally treated myself to a nice black S2 and have so many questions to ask!!....

    1. I 've developed a "blinking" ABS warning light, it comes on when it feels like...any ideas??.....
    2. How can I up grade my brakes without spending wedge on bigger wheels??....
    3. Any good independent garages in Nottingham??.....
    4. Can wishbone bushes be up-rated?..what bushes can be up-graded?...
    5. Any problems to keep my eye out for??....

    Cheers for any feedback

Welcome - grab your favourite drink, get yourself a comfy seat and surf the fountain of knowledge that is the S2 Forum. Also take a trip to www.s2central.net which has lots of info.

    1. Probably a faulty wheel speed sensor. Get fault codes pulled and it will point to the right one - or whatever the underlying fault is. You'll need a friendly garage or VAGCOM to do this if you have a laptop and the desire to learn as you play...

    2. Lots of options here. Most popular is Porsche 996 monoblocks, A8 discs with Seat Cupra or RS2 carriers. Search the brake area for lots more details and pictures

    3. Dunno 'bout Nottingham

    4. Oh yes - Powerflex do them. There are some variants available. Again - search the forum for more info...

    5. Engines are bullet proof until about 500bhp, but the weak points to watch for are air leaks basically. Also problems with old/dirty fuel filters. The coil packs can be troublesome and expensive on ABYs with high mileage. Top suspension mounts at the front take a battering and don't last long. Mega upgrades are available on the S2 - the only thing to fear for is your bank balance, cos if you get the bug for upgrading the S2 it can be very rewarding and hugely expensive.

PS - Theres a gathering at Castle Combe tomorrow where you can meet lots of the lads (and ladies) on here. I won't be there myself but you'll learn loads from other owners...

    Good Luck,

    Paul

      Hi and welcome

You got any piccies of your new motor.

As paul said there is a wealth of information on here especially on the brake upgrade(if you do a search on this you will find loads of info) A porsche 996 upgrade can be done for around £500 and is well worth it.

Where abouts in notts are you? I live in derbyshire but work in nottingham. Had my 91 3b for about 2 years now but not been able to find a decent local specialist yet. I get some work(simple stuff) done by a local garage who is not an audi specialist. I find out how to do it from the forum and then tell the mechanic what to do. It also helps with thes cars if you are prepared to get your hands dirty.

Enjoy S2 ownership and prepare for a melted credit card.

      Cheers
      Jon
