    Insurance problem

    .....but not the usual one!
My insurer ( Churchill ), whilst giving me a competitive quote on my 1994 S2 Avant, is being a bit of a pain regarding proof of the security devices fitted.
I told them that the alarm and immobiliser system were fitted as standard when new, so unlike after market installations, I don't have an Installation Certificate. They're not interested - they want written confirmation....now!
Can anyone suggest either a local to Thame, Oxfordshire alarm installer who can look at the car and give me a written confirmation of the system fitted, or alternatively, a website that gives details of the system(s) originally fitted by Audi?
    Cheers

Why don't you change insurers - this sounds like a load of tosh to me - if they're that bothered then they should send one of their own insurance assessors out - insist on that!

No mate this normal practice, they want a VSIB certificate of proof on the alarm.

You need to take your car and get VSIB certificate for the standard system although it may not get one if it doesn't meet the thactham standards.

I've not had this with any single one of any of the car insurers I've used and I've had an alarm on all my cars including a factory fitted jobbie as well as a 3rd party Thatcham Cat 1 system?

Agree with Jamo. U either have a cert, or u dont.

I went with the option of not having a cert = not having immobi fitted.

Getting a cert is just as expensive as getting a better imobi fitted.

If you were with somebody like Adrian Flux HIC etc etc they would require a certificate.

Elephant and Admiral don't ask for one.

It seems it's down to the vehicle - they ( Churchill ) didn't ask for proof on my 1992 2.8 quattro saloon....which cost more to insure!

Take it to your local garage and ask them to check the alarm, then get them to give you written confirmation (on their own headed paper) that the car has a system fitted and is in working order. I got my bike insurance to go through by doing this, worth a try. Call them to see if that's acceptable, you can't be expected to have the original certificate when the car is 10+ years old and has had x number of owners, it's just not realistic

                    Good luck,

                    Graeme.

Wrong mate, sorry. I have just gone from Efferlump to AF, they asked for the make and model, as long as its on the Thatcham Approval list they did not need a certificate, dont know if its because its factory fitted but they have not requested a certificate of any kind.

Sorry didn't make my point very well. I agree that Elephant don't ask, but I have just moved to Adrian Flux, who still did not ask for a certificate.

I've always been asked for proof of a thatcham approved alarm/immobiliser when I've stated one has been fitted. Little certificate thing that comes when you get it properly fitted. The clause that's always been present is that the car is not insured against theft unless you provide the proof.

                              Ck.
Shocked, exhausted, hosed, bushed, dumped, chipped, mounted, filtered, gauged, packed, intermittantly wiped and braked. I mean broken. Now, about the car...
