Have a look at the picture showing the back of the car. Is it me, or is this not an rs2, but a converted S2 estate? The rear light band is meant to go all across the back of the car, right?
From the images it looks fairly convincing, the wheels look to have the larger PCD bolts (5x130 rather than 5x112) which is usually a quick give away.
The rear panel could've been painted???
The centre panels crack on the RS2 and can look bad. A friend of mine had a new RS2 and shut the tailgate on a frosty day and the panel cracked the car was 500 miles old. This may have been painted to cover the repaired cracks or to look different.
converted S2 avants pretending to be RS2's do exist, right? how to spot one?
The RS2 has a different VIN and model code than the S2 - of course a scammer can try to clone that - but all the car's paperwork and original stickers should refer to the RS2 VIN and the 232kW engine with ADU code (as opposed to ABY on the S2 Avant).
As mentioned the 5x130 hubs are unique to the RS2 - and the curvy door mirrors compared to S2.
With VAG-COM you can also read ECU details which will indicate an RS2. Again not impossible for a scammer to fake, but its worth knowing.
You can send me a PM with VIN and engine numbers if you like - I can date the car pretty accurately. Your local Audi dealer should also be able to check the cars history from the VIN - certainly you can do that with Audi's UK network.
that looks genuine to me. However, its riding a little low for a standard RS2, so it may have been pimped a bit on the ol' suspension front. One of the later ones, too.
Man I haven't looked at that dodgy bit of Java code in about four years... Amazes me how often I get EMails about it though. Can't remember if it works for RS2 VINs. I know there are some mistakes in the decoder - especially regarding the confusion of various 80/90 models thru the 80's. DOubt I'll ever fix it...
Just view source - knock yourself out - I actually 'borrowed' most of it from someone else - only after several attempts to contact them for permission.
