Audi A4 or A6 buying advice

Hello everyone.

I've been pointed to this forum by users over at sxoc.com, as you guys may know a bit about the audi range My dilemma is this, Im looking to buy a 'sensible' car and Im seriously tempted by a 1998+ Audi A4 or A6. My budget is about £5.5k tops. Can i get a good reliable car for this money? What usually go wrong? Im more tempted by the A6 as I think its a good looking car. Ive heard horror stories about axle and suspension faiilure as well as electrics going wrong on the A6 - is this true?

If you can't find an A6 for that price you can always look out for a VW Passat as they share the same chassis and drivetrain ( springs, ARB and shocks are stiffer on the A6 ), AFAIK, the only tricky bit to be wary of is the multi-link front drivetrain that is known to be a weak point...

you can buy an A6 1.8t for silly money these days sub £5.5k....lot of car for the money and should be reliable enough
