    Quattro audi's

    Hello all

Im thinking of buying a normal Audi Quattro as ive got my old 16vT lump that I had in my corrado but as all VW's mainly FWD I fancy putting it in something 4x4 plus not that happy with the RX7 so that might be going soon

And off course the 16v lump is the Audi 5 pot block without the extra piston

My theory is that it make the car slightly better balanced as its not a heavy block and shorter so wont be hanging over the front wheels so much but with the 300-350bhp it should be enough to pull it along plus with extra room up front means can have nice Intercooler/rad setup

I was looking at old Audi 80's, 90's the boxy shape always loved them as first car my dad had when I was little kid is an Audi 80 and it was great

but anyhow back to my original question, what Audi’s came with Quattro? and is it all the same system? Im guess the 10v and 10v turbo's came with different ratios in the gearbox etc ???

or would it be easier to buy a 4 pot Audi and then put a Quattro system in (if its just unbolt and bolt on ?)

all help and advice would be very much appreciated

I think you will need to start by checking which gearbox codes your engine can fit to, once you know this it will be easier to find out which quattro gearbox's have the same mountings

i would was told its same fitment

as basically same bolt pattern on all in line 4 and 5 pot engines and even some V engines are same but would need a lot of work for engine mounting points ?

damm thats going to throw spanner in my works lol

p.s thanx for the reply mate

Slightly OT, I had an 80 2.0 16v quattro and it was fantastic. Fast, handled well and looked like a normal sport. I couldn't half shift off the line too.

            I would highly recommend one.

            Cheers,

Yes that age got the 16v but that ones not a quattro, dont even think about a FWD with 300hp

Of the early boxy age 80's there was 8v 4cyl. The first 80q's had a 2.1 litre 5cyl same as this one,

A year or two later when they changed the tail lights it became the 90q, and the 80q got the 1.8 8v four banger.

cool well ive started to look

but mcandmar your right i had it pushing 250 and that was interesting and only at 7 psi now i want to get the most out of it, 1 to 1.5 bar so i know its not even worth my time throwing it back in a VW so next best thing is a audi

I know prob be easier to just fit a S2 lump but to be honest the 16v cost me £3000 to build a few years ago and i just dont want to get rid of it as its a good engine

and with audi's world greatest 4x4 system i recon be perfect together

again guys thanx for all the info keep it coming lol

I would find an 80q or 90q and drop that engine in Worst case you may have to change the gearbox to get the right ratios.

If it dont say Quattro its FWD, 80 Sports were all FWD.
