    A3 2.0TDi - 140ps versus 170ps

AFAIK the two cars have the same block and turbo combination, so is it merely a question of Audi having upped the boost on the 170ps car?

We've recently bought a A3 2.0TDi S-line with the DSG box (wasn't that bothered about it initially but it makes the car real easy to drive) and the 140ps spec but I'm wondering why it couldn't be a 170ps?

Would it have anything to do with injector size ?

It will be mainly due to Audi using higher injection pressures with better injectors allowing more efficient fuel/air mix and combustion - the fuel pressures in the Audi diesels are scary high these days (as indeed they are on the FSI petrol engines too).

You could quite easily get the 140ps tuned up a bit by Mihnea though I'm sure.

I think i'm right in saying the 170hp model is common rail not pump duse !!

          170 Tdi

No I think I remember reading that they are pump duse, but with piezo injectors for higher injection pressure capability.
          Would love a 170 TDI quattro A3 s line.
Previously had a 130 TDI quattro A3, which was chipped and very fast.

The Quattro's are like rocking horse s**t.

But they'd be better because even the 140PS car spins the wheels fairly easily.

No doubt its not just a question of slotting the better injectors into the 140PS car?

Wouldn't have thought so, If you're upping the injector pressure then you'll need to improve all the surrounding surfaces... However, being an Audi, I'm sure these are already built to a pretty high standard. Go on a diesel tuning site, if you're car can be chipped to higher bhp then you know that its just the boost being increased. I should think it is too, because those diesel golfs in 110-150bhp guise are all alterations in boost pressure and exahust manifolds.
